Dr. Lulin Gao recently attended the November 12-15, 2001 International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) meeting in Marina del Rey, California as a senior member of the Chinese delegation and an intellectual property specialist. The meeting focused on a number of organizational concerns, but there was also discussion of ICANN's proposed action plan for geographic and geopolitical names. Dr. Gao was an active participant in the meeting, involving himself in discussions of the question of the multilingual domain name issue with members of the newly established Internationalized Domain Name Committee and the decision to hold the next ICANN meeting in Shanghai in September of 2002. At the meeting he met with Lynn Stuart, President of ICANN and Vinton G. Cerf, Chairman of the Board. Also present in the picture are Hu Qiheng, Chairman of CNNIC's Steering Committee, and Mao Wei, Director of CNNIC.
