At the invitation of the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law ("ABA IPL Section"), the All-China Patent Agents Association delegation led by Dr. Lulin Gao, Chairman of East IP, visited the United States from April 5, 2005 to April 19, 2005. The delegation was composed of many foreign-case-related patent agents in China, and included delegates from East IP, China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd., NTD Patent & Trademark Agency Ltd., and Liu Shen Intellectual Property Agency Ltd..
During their stay in the United States, the delegation visited a number of major U.S. Cities like Washington D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. In Washington D.C., the delegation visited the US Patent and Trademark Office, the US Copyright Office, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the US International Trade Commission, and the Supreme Court of the United States. During these visits they met with a number of well-known individuals like Ms. Marybeth Peters (the United States Register of Copyrights), Judge Paul R. Michel (Chief Judge of United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit) and Judge Timothy B. Dyk (Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit). In Silicon Valley, the delegation visited the head quarters of a number of multinational Corporations such as HP, e-Bay, and Adobe as well their new high-tech development centers. While in the Valley, the delegation also paid a visit to many law firms including Bingham McCutchen.
Over the course of his visit, Dr. Lulin Gao gave lectures at Sci3 (a consultancy organization in the public library of the Silicon valley set up by the USPTO), Jones Day LLP as well as Knobbe Matens Olson & Bear LLP introducing the newest developments in the Chinese patent system. Dr. Gao was also invited to give a speech on Procuring and Enforcing Intellectual Property Rights in the People's Republic of China at the 20th Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference of the ABA IPL Section. At Adobe, Dr. Gao gave a in-depth lecture on IP protection in the Internet era.
Dr. Gao was interviewed by the World Journal, a Chinese newspaper with a great deal of influence in North America, during his visit to Silicon Valley.
